Week End Wrap Up

By Jessica Johnston, Assistant News Director

This week is one you don’t want to miss the recap of. A slow start to a seemingly steady week turned into homemade explosives, a drug raid, some arrests, one heck of a football game and so much more. Also, there’s so much going on in Muskingum County, and beyond, this weekend. So, buckle up, we’re in for a ride here.

Ok let’s talk criminal activity

  • Crime kicked off this week with a drug raid on Norwood Boulevard. Over 100 grams of methamphetamine, 20 grams of cocaine, other drugs, two handguns and about $30,000 in cash were found while authorities searched the residence. At first, the name and charges weren’t released. Full Story.
  • Then the name of the person arrested and his charges were released. David Doyle of Zanesville is facing up to 32 years in prison if he is found guilty of all seven felony charges against him. Authorities are expecting to make more arrests in connection with this investigation. Full Story.
  • Next, someone made a homemade explosive. MCSO deputies weren’t messing around with it after a K9 member detected live explosives, so the Franklin County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was called in. If your home in South Zanesville was rocked a bit at 12:18 a.m. Thursday, it’s because the squad detonated the explosive. Preliminary story. Follow-up story that indicates the explosive might be a part of a neighborhood dispute.
  • Don’t leave yet because the U.S. Marshals were in-town Wednesday serving a warrant on Alfred Street. It’s unclear who they were serving the warrant to and why the U.S. Marshals were called in at the time of publication. The information we do have is here.
  • The last thing, Ross Zwelling faces several felony charges including having a weapon under disability, possession of criminal tools, conspiracy to aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence after being arrested due to a potential robbery. Full Story.

Both teams were 6-0 before the game on Friday night, so check the preview out first. Somebody always has to come out on top, and Tri-Valley did. The Scotties took a W over Sheridan in overtime, 20-19. Full game recap, this isn’t one you want to miss.
  • Muskingum University’s womens volleyball is on fire. The ladies stole their 11th straight win this season against Wilmington at home on Tuesday night. Game recap.

A sprinkle of art

  • A little vandalism took place outside of a locally-famous studio, and people are not cool with it. About 10 of the sculptures outside of Cottrill’s Studio on 6th street were defaced with blue paint. It’s unclear who did it, but luckily the sculptures can be cleaned up. Zanesville is full of rich artistic culture, so people weren’t pleased with the stunt. Full Story.
