Welcome to the first weekend in October, breathe in the crisp fall air … just kidding it’s 80 degrees. There’s a lot of fall themed activities going on this weekend, so buckle up and grab some apple cider on the way to these community events. Thursday, Oct. 4:

  • Works by Sharon Dean Display at the John McIntire Public Library Mondays through Fridays during the month of October from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The artist’s work will be on display in the Carnegie Wing Gallery on the second floor.
  • Works by Jane Evans and William Salzman at the John McIntire Public Library throughout the weeks in October from 9:30 a.m. to 8 pm.
  • Toddler Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is aimed at 2 to 3.5-year-olds to enhance language skills through stories, songs and activities. For more information contact the Youth Services Desk at the library.
  • Preschool Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The program is aimed at 3.5-to 5-year-old children to enhance engagement through stories, songs and activities.
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Corn Maze at McDonald’s Greenhouse is underway for the fall season. The maze is every Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 29. Additional days were added for October.

Friday, Oct. 5:

  • All Ohio Contemporary Ceramics Competition from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Seilers’ Studio and Gallery. Galleries will be open downtown during the time for the First Friday Art Walk. The show and sale will be Friday evening from 5 to 10 p.m.
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Corn Maze at McDonald’s Greenhouse is underway for the fall season. The maze is every Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 29. Additional days were added for October.

  • First Friday Art Walk in downtown Zanesville from 5 to 8 p.m. First Friday Art Walks take place the first Friday of every month and are hosted by The Artist Colony of Zanesville. People are invited to explore the streets of downtown Zanesville while visiting 35 participating local businesses, galleries and studios.
  • First Friday with Davey O at Weasel Boy Brewing Company from 8 to 11 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 6:

  • Zanesville Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Fairgrounds on Pershing Road.

  • Ohio Makes Festival at the Zane State College Campus from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival will have pumpkin carving, Idea Lab demonstrations, food trucks, a beer garden and large yard games. For more information click here.
  • Harvest Arts and Crafts Fair at the Historic Prospect Place Estate from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The mansion will be open for self-guided tours during this time.
  • Worldwide Photo Walk – Downtown Church Photos from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center (meeting place). Participants can take photos of the churches downtown to be judged based on composition, sharpness and light usage. Contact David Yocum for more information at 740.697.0674.
  • Fall Camp out at Blue Rock State Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fall crafts, games and trick or treating will be available to participants.
  • Fall “Touch a Truck” Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Road – Zane Grey Museum. Children are welcome to come sit behind the wheels of some of their favorite vehicles. Scarecrow construction, slime making and pumpkin picking will also be available.
  • The All Ohio Contemporary Ceramics 2018 Biennial from 12 to 7 p.m. at the Seilers’ Studio and Gallery. $5,000 in awards will be presented on Saturday.
  • Y-City Gunfest from 12 to 8 p.m. at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. The event will have gun raffles, games of chance, 50/50 raffles, texas holdem, free food, beer and live music. Live entertainment will be provided by Hunter Lepi and Blackhand Hooch.
  • Familiar Comfort Gallery Hours from 1 to 5 p.m. at the PSZ Clay Center. The work is by Jenn Cole, a ceramic artist and curator from Lancaster, OH. Her work will be on display through the beginning of November.
  • Lorena Sternwheeler Fall Foliage Cruise from 2 to 3 p.m. at Zane’s Landing Park. Days to enjoy a ride on the sternwheeler are running out for this season. The sternwheeler travels up the Muskingum River Trail. No reservations are required but guests are asked to arrive 20 minutes before they plan to ride. Seniors ride for $7, Adults ride for $8 and children ride for $4.

  • 80s on Board at the American Legion Post 29 at 8 p.m. The event is open to the public and participants can enjoy 80s music and cold drinks.
  • Joe Rollin Porter Live at Weasel Boy Brewing Company from 8 to 11 p.m. Joe is from Cleveland and his music is largely composed of American folk songs.

Sunday, Oct. 7:

  • Free Community Workout at CrossFit Zanesville at 11:30 a.m. CrossFit Zanesville opened its doors in September at 2575 Old Falls Rd.
