A New Concord man changed his plea to guilty in common pleas court Monday morning after allegedly threatening to shoot his wife.

Albert Jarvis IV, 31, pleaded guilty to one first-degree felony count of kidnapping with a firearm specification, a fourth-degree felony count of disrupting public service and another fourth-degree felony charge of improper handling of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.

In court, Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor Gerald Anderson alleged Jarvis was involved in a dispute with his wife after becoming intoxicated one night in November.

On Nov. 4, 2018, Anderson said Jarvis’ wife received a text message containing a photo of her husband with another woman.

Anderson explained that the couple was away from home, separately, on Nov. 4 when the wife received a text message containing the picture of Jarvis with another woman.

Jarvis was first to return home and began drinking. When his wife arrived, he became combative.

According to Anderson, Jarvis held a gun to his wife’s head, rubbing it against her face and temple while asking who she was sleeping with at work.

Jarvis pinned his wife to the bed with his hand around her throat, Anderson said.

At some point, Anderson said Jarvis momentarily left the room to vomit.

When he returned, his wife was on the phone with 911 dispatchers.

Anderson said Jarvis ended the call and later told dispatchers it was a drunken mistake.

When Jarvis left the room to puke for a second time, Anderson said the woman called her mother.

However, when Jarvis returned, he took the phone and claimed she was having bad dream.

Eventually police were made aware of the situation after the victim’s father explained her husband assaulted her, threatened her with a gun and attempted to rape her.

Jarvis was later found in his vehicle with a loaded gun and was arrested.

With the firearm specification, Judge Mark Fleegle told Jarvis he would have a mandatory sentence of three years in prison in addition to his other sentences.
