Summer is coming to a close but there are still plenty of events in Zanesville and around Muskingum County. Here’s a guide to keep every local busy all weekend long. Have a weekend event that needs added to the list? Email us at contact@ycitynews.com.

Thursday, Aug. 23:

  • Works by Maraya Metz Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Metz is a student artist in the area whose work will be on display at the library through the month of August.
  • Artists of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The display will show works of art from the participating seniors at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors. The display will be available on weekdays throughout August.
  • 73rd Ohio Annual Exhibition at Zanesville Museum of Art from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition is celebrating the museum’s commitment to recognizing and promoting some of Ohio’s finest artists and artisans.
  • Toddler Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is aimed at 2 to 3.5-year-olds to enhance language skills through stories, songs and activities. For more information contact the Youth Services Desk at the library.
  • Preschool Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The program is aimed at 3.5-to 5-year-old children to enhance engagement through stories, songs and activities.

Friday, Aug. 24:

  • The Wilds Sunset Safari Tour at 4:30 p.m. Guests enjoy a buffet-style dinner before boarding a safari vehicle to see the animals up close in their open-range habitats. The tour includes a behind-the-scenes viewing of the property. It’s $75 per person or $70 per person for members. Make your reservation here.
  • Don Felder Live Performance at Secrest Auditorium from 7 to 9 p.m. Felder is the former lead guitarist for The Eagles. Tickets can be purchased at the Secrest Box Office or online at the Secrest Auditorium website.

Saturday, Aug. 25:

  • Zanesville Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. has moved back to the fairgrounds following fair events last weekend.
  • Back-to-School Pet Pictures and Paw-ty from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pet Valu. There will be a meet and greet with Deputy Shawn Williams and his K9 partner”Crit” from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Then pet photos from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kitty adoptions with the Coshocton County Humane Society from 2 to 6 p.m. Then finally a doggie sundae bar throughout the day.

  • Roseville Historical Society Celebrates Heritage Day at the Roseville Historical Society Museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Book signing with author Daniel Rose at the John McIntire Library from 10 to 11 a.m. The West Virginian author will be in the lobby of the library to discuss and sign his two books “Home on The Ridge” and “Dogs at Large.”
  • Geneology Workshop at the John McIntire Public Library from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event is hosted by The Muskingum County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. The event is focusing on utilizing free websites. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet.
  • Zanesville Museum of Art Free Family Day at the Zanesville Museum of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants are encouraged to come and enjoy a day of fun for this back-to-school event.
  • Lorena Sternwheeler Public Rides from 2 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Zane’s Landing Park. The sternwheeler travels up the Muskingum River Trail. No reservations are required but guests are asked to arrive 20 minutes before they plan to ride. Seniors ride for $7, Adults ride for $8 and children ride for $4.

Sunday, Aug. 26:

  • Grace Church Block Party at the Grace United Methodist Church on Shinnick Street. The church service begins at 10 a.m. and the cookout begins immediately following the service. All are welcome.
  • Developing Drawing Skills with Nora Daniel, a monthly event that takes place on the last Sunday of every month will be held at The Old Quaker from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Each workshop is $50 but scholarships are available.
