Polls open for special election Tuesday

The polls open tomorrow on the 2018 special election for the U.S. Representative from the 12th Congressional District.

The race for the position is between Danny O’Connor (D-OH) and Troy Balderson (R-OH). Early voting for the August election began on July 10.

The special election comes after Pat Tiberi, the former representative from the 12th district, announced his resignation from the position back in October 2017. Tiberi went on to serve as the president of the Ohio Business Roundtable.

Each of the two running candidates have been campaigning for months in preparation for tomorrow’s tallies.

Balderson made a stop to his hometown of Zanesville last Thursday, Aug. 2. He emphasized the fundamental details of his platform while speaking at Kessler Sign Company. The majority of his speech focused on the topic of jobs.

O’Connor has appeared in Zanesville, and the support for him from the people of Muskingum County is not thin.

O’Connor and Balderson have both received various endorsements from prominent politicians as the ending for voting has neared.

The 12th Congressional District encompasses all of Delaware, Licking and Morrow Counties, as well as parts of Franklin, Marion, Muskingum and Richland Counties.

Residents of the district can visit various voting locations tomorrow to cast their votes. To find local voting information and locations click here.
