With nearly 65 percent of the vote, Todd Hixson won the Republican election for Muskingum County Treasurer Tuesday night.

Hixson, a nearly 20 year veteran with the Muskingum County Auditor’s Office, will be switching hats early next year as he is uncontested this fall in the General Election.

For Hixson, “it’s in the blood,” to become a public servant, as his father was a Muskingum County Common Pleas Court judge and his mother and wife both teachers.

When Muskingum County Treasurer Christina Hamill announced her retirement last year, Hixson said he felt it was a chance for more responsibility and to serve his community.

Like many candidates across the state, Hixson was impacted by the state’s decision to postpone the election. Unable to go door-to-door or speak at events during the campaign season, Hixson said he was ready when the election ended Tuesday night.

Learning the results by constantly refreshing the Muskingum County Board of Elections website, Hixson described holding his breath and being nervous while scrolling down to his race.

“It’s a huge relief, to have run and have it turn out in your favor,” said Hixson.

Hixson thanked everybody for their support and his opponent, Brett Nelson, for a clean and honest race.

“I’ll do the best possible job, the best of my ability, for the citizens of the county,” Hixson said on a phone interview with Y-City News while taking a break from picking up campaign signs.
