The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is now offering high-dose flu vaccines for senior citizens. 

According to the health department, high-dose immunizations are only approved for adults 65 and older to help those individuals maintain their health throughout the season. 

While reactions to the vaccine are typically rare and mild, those with a history of severe allergic reaction to flu shots or other vaccines are advised against the immunization. 

The health department says the high-dose version of the immunization is just as safe as a regular flu shot.

Vaccines are available to the public while supplies last by calling (740) 454-97141.
