After being brought to the Muskingum County Jail by a bail bondsman, a soon-to-be inmate attempted to smuggle some drugs behind bars with him.

On Feb. 8, Timothy Mayle was booked into the county jail. Upon his booking, it was found that he had .10 grams of meth on him prior to exchanging his clothing for a jumpsuit.

Mayle, who has seven prior felonies, was read the warnings and questioned about having any weapons or drugs on him before corrections officers searched him further. He denied having any contraband on him, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch stated in court.

Shortly after, a yellow object that was strategically concealed in Mayle’s upper leg and crotch area fell to the ground while officers were searching him.

Substances were found inside the object and were sent for testing. The substances consisted of fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Wednesday afternoon, Mayle pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drugs methamphetamine, one count of possession of drugs fentanyl — both fifth-degree felonies — and one count of illegal conveyance of drugs fentanyl, a third-degree felony.

The State made no recommendation as to sentencing in his case.

Mayle’s bond was continued at $75,000 pending sentencing.
