A courtroom filled with about 25 relatives and friends of the victim of a New Year’s Eve homicide were in the Muskingum County Courthouse Wednesday morning for the arraignment of Dustin R. Cox.
Cox, 24, is accused of shooting and killing his wife, 21 year-old Martisa Palmer, during the early morning hours of Dec. 31.
In a previous report, Zanesville Police said they were called to a home at 609 Pershing Rd. around 3:21 a.m. for a disturbance where they later found the victim’s body.
According to a press release from Zanesville Police Chief Tony Coury, Cox was later found in a parked vehicle outside a south east Zanesville residence later that afternoon.

Thank you Ms. Holmes for clarifying that Dustin Cox murdered his wife. Domestic violence is real and serious. Many individuals are subjected to domestic violence daily and suffer serious injury and death; at the hands of a significant other or spouse. We must encourage those who are in domestic violence situations to speak up, speak out and get out. The journey may be difficult to flee abuse, but your life is precious in God’s sight and those that love you. To the abuser, there is a better way; seek help. God will deliver the abused and the abuser. Life is too short to be abused or to abuse others. Live at peace with one another, cherish life and your family. Every life affects someone.
