End of an era: One video rental store remains in Muskingum County

By Staff Report and

Only one video rental store remains in Muskingum County after Family Video on Maysville Avenue closed its doors for good this summer.

Assets from the Maysville Family Video are being consolidated into the Maple Avenue location, according to parent company Highland Ventures’ district manager Angel Assid.

While not able to comment on what would become of the building owned by Highland Ventures at 1800 Maysville Avenue, which closed mid-July of this year, she did note the company is in the process of having a potential tenant to occupy the building.

This closure leaves only one brick and mortar video rental store located in Muskingum County.

Family Video located at 2572 Maple Avenue is all that remains of a once prominent video rental enterprise that has roots back to the mid-1980’s in the Zanesville area.

Hollywood Video located at 3126 Maple Avenue and Blockbuster Video located at the Country Fair Shopping Center both closed in 2009.

Family Video has placed a video rental kiosk outside the now closed store on Maysville Avenue to help those customers who can’t make the trip to the Maple Avenue location.
