Genesis to build new orthopedic center

By Staff Report

Genesis Healthcare System has announced plans to build an in-house orthopedic center for patients throughout Southeastern Ohio.

The site will be located across from Northside Pharmacy near the Genesis complex at the intersection of Bell Street and Bethesda Drive adjacent to Huntington Bank.

Construction on the new Genesis Orthopedic Center will begin this fall with an expected completion date sometime in 2021.

A local firm, APG Architects, designed the new center and officials with Genesis say they hope to use local contractors for as much of the project as possible.

The new center will feature state-of-the-art patient treatment spaces which will include both physical and occupational therapy services to accommodate specialists in joint replacement surgery, hand surgery, sports medicine, sports medicine/physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedic trauma surgery, physical and occupational rehabilitation and athletic trainer services.

Once the building is complete, orthopedic services which are currently split between the neuroscience and orthopedic center, at Genesis Hospital and the Genesis Orthopedic Sports Medicine office, will be brought together under one roof at the new facility.

Genesis Healthcare System President and CEO, Matthew Perry, said the new center will make it easier for patients, with all orthopedic services in one location.

“It will also provide an opportunity to add additional orthopedic providers such as surgeons, sports medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, athletic trainers and rehabilitation specialists to our growing Genesis orthopedic team,” Perry elaborated. ”

The total estimated cost for the project was not disclosed.
