An unidentified individual is missing and presumed to have drowned late Saturday night.

According to Dresden Fire Department Assistant Cheif David Lacy, the department was alerted around 11 p.m. of a missing swimmer along Boy Scout Road east of Dresden.

A command post was established at the Dresden River Park with units from both Dresden and Falls Fire Departments on scene to load rescue boats into the water.

Multiple civilian craft also assisted in the search for the missing individual.

The boats traversed the roughly 6 miles of river between the park and Boy Scout Road, with no sight of the victim.

Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning the search was called off with plans to resume the search in the morning.

“We searched as well as we could,” described Lacy as he spoke about the challenges of a night water rescue.

No more information was available as to the identity of the victim.

Lacy said the morning search will likely turn from a rescue to a recovery for the missing individual.

In a separate incident Monday afternoon, multiple area fire departments pulled a 25-year-old man from the Muskingum River, who was later confirmed to have drowned after being under the water for roughly 45 minutes.
