Muskingum County under flood advisory

By Jessica Johnston, Assistant News Director

Muskingum County is currently under both a flood advisory, as well as a flash flood watch.

As of 8 p.m. the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh placed portions of western Maryland through West Virginia, including Muskingum County, under a flash flood watch. The watch is scheduled to stay in effect through Thursday evening.

At 8:29 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for central Muskingum County stating that rain from the thunderstorms will cause minor flooding in the area. Locations expecting flooding include Zanesville, South Zanesville, Pleasant Grove, Duncan Falls, Bridgeville and Drake.

The flood advisory is in effect until 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Anyone experiencing flooding is asked to contact the National Weather Service at (412) 262-1988, post on the NWS Facebook Page or tweet at the NWS @NWSPittsburgh on Twitter.

Drivers are advised to turn around and not attempt to drive through water covering the roadways.

There are currently 49 AEP customers in the area southwest of downtown Zanesville experiencing a power outage, according to the AEP Ohio outage map. The estimated time of restoration is 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Y-City News will update with new information if weather severity increases.
