Following Brian Hill’s appointment to the Ohio Senate on Dec. 13, Speaker of the Ohio House Ryan Smith (R-Bidwell) announced Wednesday that the screening panel in charge of filling Hill’s newly vacant House seat will be organized in the coming weeks.

“I look forward to beginning the process for filling this vacancy,” Speaker Smith said in a media release from his office. “Residents of the 97th House District deserve a quality candidate, in a timely manner, who will serve constituents and the community to the best of their ability.”

The date and location of the panel interviews, as well as the House members serving on the panel have not been released yet.

The 97th House District includes all of Guernsey County and most of Muskingum County.

Anyone interested in being considered for the appointed position should be a resident of the 97th House District and must provide a letter of interest and a resume. Those forms can be sent to Speaker Smith at 77 South High Street, 14th Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215 by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. Resumes and letter of interest can also be emailed to Smith at rep93@ohiohouse.gov.
