A serious crash near Nashport Elementary School Wednesday afternoon sent two drivers to the hospital.

Creamery Road was closed for more than an hour as area crews extracted at least one of the victims from their vehicle.

According to a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near the intersection of Creamery Road and Welsh Road at around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Both a 2012 grey Dodge Journey and a 2005 white Dodge Durango were eastbound along Creamery Road when the Durango attempted to pass on double yellow lines.

The Durango drove off the left side of the roadway and lost control.

The driver then swerved back onto the roadway striking the Journey in the rear driver’s side door.

That collision caused the Journey to go off the left side of the roadway, overturn and strike a telephone pole.

The driver became trapped inside and had to be removed by mechanical means, according to scanner traffic.

Both drivers were transported from the scene to Genesis Hospital. Their conditions remain unknown.

No other occupants were in either vehicle.
