The name of an area woman killed earlier this month in a fatal car crash has been released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jessica Wilson, a 40-year-old Newark resident, died from her injuries at the scene of the crash.

According to OSP, on Thursday, July 1, at around 10 p.m. the Muskingum County Dispatch Center received multiple calls about a vehicle that was on fire with its driver still trapped inside.

When first responders arrived on scene they found that the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and began to combat the fire.

Troopers said they believe that Wilson was traveling southbound along Thompson Run Road in Springfield township when she struck a tree along a sharp turn between Paxton Road and Foxfire Drive.

The resulting crash caused the black 2011 Ford Fusion to ignite in flames with Wilson still trapped inside.

Wilson died before rescuers could arrive on scene.

OSP didn’t say if they believe excessive speed, distracted driving or an impairment could have been a factor in the fatal crash.

The investigation is ongoing, according to troopers.

No one else was believed to have been in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

A portion of Thompson Run Road was closed for multiple hours as crews handled the situation.

Assisting the Ohio State Highway Patrol were firefighters from both Newton Township and South Zanesville Fire Departments.
