A local credit union has announced the opening of its newest branch in north Zanesville.

Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union, formally known as Zane Trace Federal Credit Union, has moved from its location along Ridge Avenue and relocated to a brand new building along Northpointe Drive across from the Oaks at Northpointe.

To celebrate, an event is planned for members of the public next week which includes food, prizes and live music.

The news of a possible new branch or relocation was first discovered and published by Y-City News in the summer of 2019.

Our story identified how the credit union had purchased roughly two-and-a-half acres of property in Zanesville along the developing roadway.

According to real estate transfers listed by the Muskingum County Auditor’s Office, the property was purchased from Kearns Development Company Ltd. for $245,000.

Originally called the Zane Trace Federal Credit Union and located at 1917 Ridge Avenue near Owens Brockway Glass, in 2013 the single branch joined and took the name of Bayer Heritage, a consortium of credit unions from around the multi-state region.

In May of last year, the news of a new branch was officially verified when officials with the company took to their Facebook page announcing “the exciting news” for their new location that will feature “a beautiful, functional, state-of-art facility to help better serve the area.”

Later that month due to concerns over the pandemic, a decision was made to cancel any plans for an in-person groundbreaking ceremony and instead use the money to increase the Credit Unions giving to local charities.

Christ’s Table, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville, The Carr Center and the Muskingum County Community Foundation each received a $2,500 check.

The LaMacchia Group, the development firm for the Credit Union, was touched by the act of giving and chose to match the donation to Christ’s Table, awarding the organization $5,000 in total.

The donation greatly assisted the non-profit who at the time was struggling to keep the most vulnerable members of the community fed as its cost-per-meal nearly doubled due to the closure of its dine-in service and need for disposable utensils.

In total, Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union and the LaMacchia Group donated nearly $15,000 to the five local charities.

Shala Aitken, branch manager, said the donations were just one way the organization supports the local community.

Recently the Credit Union also made a sizable donation to the Genesis Cancer Care Center to support local cancer patients.

The grand opening event next week is designed to give the public a look inside while also showcasing the advantages the new location will have for both existing and new customers.

The event will begin with a ribbon-cutting and be followed by food and refreshments provided by the Crazy Kernel Kettle Corn Truck.

Giveaways will also occur during the four-hour event and a live music remote will be streamed by the radio station T-100.

According to a release flyer, “you’re going to love our new lounge seating, coffee station and Interactive Teller Machine.”

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. next Wednesday, May 12 at 3280 Northpointe Drive, Zanesville.

The branch officially opened to customers on January 11 of this year.

Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union was founded in 1957 and is a full-service financial institution with more than 35,000 members and over half-a-billion in assets.
