An assistance program designed to help those in need during the winter months continues to be available through the early spring.

The Muskingum County Community Action Agency announced Monday that an existing program designed to help pay heating and other energy-related utility bills still has funds available for those in need.

The program is also able to help those who are threatened with disconnection or have been disconnected from their utility service.

One particular fund, the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines with their heating bills.

Part of that assistance, the HEAP Winter Crisis Program, which started on November 1 can help prevent an upcoming utility disconnect or restore service to a residence already disconnected.

Those looking for assistance will need to provide their most recent utility bills, a list of all household members, proof of income for the past 30 days for all household members, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members and proof of disability (if applicable).

Applications must be received by March 31, 2021.
