A local grocery store was forced to close Monday afternoon after a vehicle struck the front of its building causing damage to the brick foundation and large glass windows covering the frontage of the store.

According to Dakota Mascher of the South Zanesville Police Department, first responders received reports of a vehicle into Campbell’s Foodland along Maysville Avenue at around 4:30 p.m.

Mascher explained that a 77-year-old man was traveling along Maysville Avenue when he went to turn and lost control of the vehicle causing it to crash into the store.

Neither the single occupant nor any customers inside the store were injured as a result of the crash.

The officer explained that the damage to the building appears to be mostly cosmetic, though he did note substantial damage to a large number of windows at the front of the store.

While the crash remains under investigation, Mascher said the driver will likely be issued a citation for the crash.

Weather is believed to have been a factor in the collision.

Campbell’s is currently closed due to the damage, it is unclear when the store will reopen to customers.

Update: Campbell’s is now open, customers are being asked to go through the produce entryway.
