2 hospitalized for COVID-19 in Muskingum County, case count increases to 40

Muskingum County has recorded 40 cases of COVID-19 as of May 19.

Of those cases, 35 are confirmed with positive testing, while five are considered probable due to exposure to the virus.

According to the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department, three additional residents have tested positive for the coronavirus since Monday.

Case 38 is a 47-year-old woman who is hospitalized, case 39 is a 58-year-old woman who is at home recovering and case 40 is a 50-year-old man who is at home recovering.

Those cases are not related to any previous cases.

Additionally, the 21-year-old woman who was recorded as case 36 Monday is now hospitalized.

During a public address Tuesday, Director of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department Dr. Jack Butterfield said 2,032 tests have been conducted in Muskingum County with 46 tests returning positive and 1,986 returning negative.

However, not all who were tested in Muskingum County reside within its borders.

The health department also announced 31 COVID-19 patients in Muskingum County have recovered from the virus.
