A Zanesville man is facing multiple citations after leaving the scene of a rollover crash Thursday afternoon along Interstate 70 just past the Gratiot on-ramp.

Richard Whitehouse, 22, was traveling eastbound along I-70 in his 2001 Honda Civic when his vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, rolling over, and landing on its top according to Sgt. Jeffrey Jirles with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

When troopers with both the Zanesville and Granville post arrived on scene, they found the vehicle abandoned. Along with National Trail Fire & EMS personnel troopers began searching the area for any potential occupants.

After an initial search, the driver was not located. However, with some investigative work by troopers, the driver was eventually identified according to Sgt. Jirles.

Whitehouse was later determined to have fled the scene and is being ticketed for failure to control, driving under suspension and hit-skip/leaving the scene of an accident.

According to court records, Whitehouse was released from prison earlier this year after serving more than two years for crimes committed in 2017.
