In a fight over who has the ultimate authority over Ohio elections, Governor Mike DeWine in conjunction with Health Director Dr. Amy Acton has ordered the polls closed Tuesday, citing an ‘unprecedented public health crisis.’

Going against his earlier remarks today about who has the jurisdiction to close Ohio polls, DeWine stated in a press release issued late Monday night that the polls will remain closed Tuesday.

“To conduct an election tomorrow would force poll workers and voters to place themselves at a unacceptable health risk of contracting Coronavirus,” the press release continues.

Further, DeWine said that Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose will seek a remedy through the courts to extend voting options into the future.

It is currently unclear if the Ohio Supreme Court or the Ohio Legislature will intervene before polls would typically  open tomorrow morning.
