County Commissioners support electric aggregation issue on March ballot
February 28, 2020
This March, voters will have the opportunity to choose whether or not to pass a ballot measure which is claimed to save participants money on their electric bills each month.
The Muskingum County Commissioners, in partnership with the County Commissioners Association of Ohio, are working on the ballot measure which is designed to allow groups of citizens to combine their purchasing power of electricity in the hopes of receiving a discount.
According to Muskingum County Commissioner Jim Porter, the larger the purchasing group, the higher the discount, which yields better rates for Muskingum County Citizens.
Perry Township previously enacted similar legislation and saw average residential savings of $147 per year.
Bob Snavely, a consultant for the County Commissioners Association of Ohio, said AEP customers who aren’t already enrolled with a third party supplier are eligible.
If the ballot measure passes, AEP will still supply the electricity and provide support to customers, the only difference the consumer will notice is the price on their bill, Snavely continued.

I agree with Roger. There is more that needs to be told before we (the voters) can make an informed decision on this issue. There is a possible negative impact with most “cheaper” goods and/or services. What is the catch in this situation? LAB

Dear Staff Editors, there is much more information for you to report on this other than saving money for local AEP customers. As a former long distance calling aggregator there are profit motives that must be revealed by those persons selling this idea of “saving money” to our commissioners. I consider your report to be the first of more forthcoming reports that you will write to reveal and explain to the public the aspects, both positive and negative, for those who choose to participate.
