Each year, the Muskingum County Library System helps adults keep the winter blues away with a mystery bag of books.

Library visitors countywide can now visit their local branch of the MCLS to pick up a branded tote bag filled with three books.

Adults 18 years-old and older can grab a bag from the library and check out the three books inside that are hand-selected by adult services librarians.

Marketing and Community Relations Director for the MCLS Sean Fennell said each bag of three books typically has a theme to it, but the selected reads often offer library goers the chance to read books they never have or experience new authors.

Fennell added that as the weather continues to get colder, many people enjoy curling up on the couch with a new book they discover in their chosen tote.

Despite the cold temperatures, the over 550 filled totes across the MCLS branches go quickly.

“Get in as soon as they can because they do go quickly,” Fennell said.

Once the bags are taken, they will not be replenished. Thus, Fennel encouraged interested library goers to grab their bag by the end of the week.

Many frequent visitors of the library look forward to the event each year and grab their bags early on.

Anyone that participates in the program may keep the MCLS tote bag, but the books inside must be checked out and returned to the library.
