Tis the season of gift giving, and this pup is looking for the gift of a forever home.

Sapphire is a medium-sized lab-mix that came into the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center at the beginning of September.

She was picked up by Deputy Dog Warden Alisha Myers after someone called when they found Sapphire who was a puppy at the time. The people who found Sapphire wanted to keep her but due to renting restrictions, they were unable to keep her.

Since her intake into the adoption center, Myers said Sapphire has doubled in size.

Due to her young age, volunteers with the adoption center said Sapphire has a lot of energy and would benefit from an active family who is willing to take her on longer walks to utilize that energy.

The pup is very affectionate and gets along with every person and dog she meets, although the volunteers said she may be too much for an older dog to handle.

Sapphire is still learning manners and commands, but she does know “sit.”

The adoption center is currently at full capacity and is not taking anymore dogs at this time. The wardens and volunteers hosted a holiday adoption day Saturday, Dec. 21 to get dogs like Sapphire adopted.

Hours of operation for the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center on Saturdays has been extended. The hours are now 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

While many dogs are looking to get adopted, there is a need for fosters, as well. People aren’t always able to adopt multiple dogs, but Myers said the adoption center is always looking for new volunteers to foster.

For Sapphire, she currently has a an ACL issue which requires more exercise for her to heal. Myers said she would greatly benefit from a foster home until she is adopted.

A company that is dedicated to donating to organizations and people who foster dogs, Max & Neo, a leash and collar business based out of Arizona, recently donated “Adopt Me” winter-themed leashes and collars to the adoption center.

Anyone that may be interested in fostering dogs at the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center is encouraged to visit the center or call the wardens to begin the fostering process.

Sapphire is available for adoption or fostering at the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center. Anyone interested in adopting or fostering her can contact the adoption center to set up a meet-and-greet at 740.453.0273.
