A portion of Dresden Road in Muskingum Township was closed Sunday due to shifting ground beneath the roadway.

The shifting ground is causing edges of the road to also shift and break away, Michael Maniaci, a Muskingum Township trustee, said.

Residents are able to get through the closed portion of the road, but Maniaci said he is worried about a flow of through traffic in the area which led to the road closure.

The county engineer is presenting an estimate to repair the road Wednesday afternoon. If the repairs are estimated to cost over $50,000 the project is required to be bid out.

A bid is required to be open for two week before one can be chosen and repairs can begin.

Maniaci said if the estimated cost is less than $50,000 it can be declared as an emergency and work on the road can begin as soon as possible.
