Monday afternoon, fire crews were called to the location of an abandoned home after receiving a call of smoke coming from the general location of Shannon Valley Road and Cranberry Lane.

When Falls Township Fire personnel arrived on scene, the structure had already collapsed and fire crews worked to prevent the flames from spreading.

Captain Todd Heinzman of the Licking Township Fire Department said firefighters used over 4,000 gallons of water to combat the blaze.

The fire was started by the property owner’s brother-in-law in a controlled attempt to raze the structure, however, it got out of control, according to Captain Heinzman.

The individual has been helping his brother-in-law tear down the structure.

Licking Township, Falls Township and Frazeysburg Fire departments responded to the call and no injuries were reported at the scene.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be contacted since the brother-in-law was burning during a seasonal burn ban.

The burn ban is currently in effect through May, which prohibits open burning and prescribed fires between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. throughout the state.
