A 26 year-old Newark man faces up to 12 years in prison after a jury found him guilty on several drug-related charges last week.

On Wednesday, Sean Franklin was convicted of first-degree felonies of trafficking in cocaine and possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony of trafficking in marijuana, a first-degree misdemeanor of possession of marijuana and a fourth-degree misdemeanor of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Franklin’s arrest was the result of a month-long investigation through the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and the Zanesville Police Department.

On April 20, 2017, officers executed a search warrant at 440 Dryden Rd. which resulted in the seizure of drugs and money.

According to Muskingum County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch, over an ounce of cocaine was located in Franklin’s bedroom.

Marijuana and cash were also located in the house.

Welch said investigators were able to find evidence showing Franklin was involved in cocaine trafficking.

“This is yet another excellent example of law enforcement in Muskingum County working to make our community safer by aggressively pursuing the people that are poisoning our community with drugs,” said Welch.

According to Welch, Franklin faces a one year prison sentence on the marijuana trafficking charge and another 3 to 11 years for possession and trafficking of cocaine.
