Elderly New Concord man dies in fire
March 24, 2019
An elderly New Concord man died in a fire at his mobile home early Sunday morning.
According to Chief Brent Gates of the New Concord Fire Department, firefighters were called to a mobile home on Friendship Drive near the bottom of Bloomfield hill around 1:30 a.m.
Within 10 minutes of the victim’s call, the first engine was on scene, Gates said.
When firefighters arrived, the trailer was involved in flames, and the roof was beginning to collapse.
The only person who lived in the trailer, a man in his 70s, was unable to get to safety and died in the fire, Gates said.
The cause of the fire, which Gates called “very, very tragic,” is under investigation with the state fire marshal.
Assisting the New Concord Fire Department were the Adamsville and Cassell Station volunteer fire departments.
