The main entrance of Water Street is currently closed due to bridge construction, but the portion of the road the hunters were on was open at the time.

Rising water on the Muskingum River left a pair of duck hunters stranded upon return to their vehicle on Thursday.

The hunters had parked the vehicle on Water Street in Duncan Falls while they went to hunt, and, when they returned, the vehicle was surrounded by water, Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said.

“I don’t think the road had been closed when they parked there because the water wasn’t up that far,” Lutz said. “I don’t know how much time had elapsed from the time they parked there, went out duck hunting, they could’ve been out on the river for three or four hours and came back and it rose up.”

Lutz said the vehicle was retrieved from the water.

No one was in the car at the time and Lutz said no rescue was needed.

Muskingum County EMA Director Jeff Jadwin said the Muskingum River’s water levels are going to be up for a while. As of Thursday evening, Muskingum County is under a flood advisory.
