A man was struck by oncoming traffic while attempting to cross Maple Avenue near the I-70 ramp just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening.

According to Zanesville Police, the driver of a small car unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the pedestrian.

The 45 year-old was injured and taken to the hospital but was alert when medics got to the scene, police said.

According to an officer at the scene, the jaywalking-man was at fault for not crossing at a properly marked pedestrian crosswalk.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Police are unsure if the man at fault will be cited, but the driver of the vehicle was not.
