Wednesday is the 62nd annual Zanesville Sertoma Pancake Day

The fundraiser, one of largest in the county, is anticipated to raise about $25,000 throughout the day Wednesday.

The event started at 6 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m.

Volunteers had already served over 1,000 people before 10 a.m., Sertoma chairman Russ Taylor said. He anticipated that another 3,000 people would come through Secrest Auditorium for their pancakes by the end of the day.

“We go through 52 cases of pancake batter and there’s six five pound boxes per case, we go through 50 cases of syrup, 16 hundred pounds of sausage,” Taylor said. “We’ll go through 260 gallons of milk, 3,400 half pints of milk, along with 120 gallons of orange juice.”

All of that food goes to feed people in the community for a donation of $8 at the door of auditorium doors.

Several church group come in to volunteer at the pancake day to clean tables and help serve. Taylor said that some of the money raised will be donated to those churches that provide volunteers.

“If we have any leftover, we donate it to Christ’s Table so they can have pancakes the rest of the week,” Taylor said.

He added that each year, many of the same people and families show up for the pancake day as it’s an event that many people look forward to before thanksgiving each year.
