Muskingum County voting guide, locations

By Jessica Johnston, Assistant News Director

The Midterm Election is quickly approaching. A lot of people have taken advantage of early voting, but for those who haven’t, here’s a polling guide for Muskingum County.

Anyone voting with an absentee ballot in Ohio must have sent their ballots in by Monday afternoon, and must be received by Nov. 16, for the vote to be counted.

There are some familiar faces to Muskingum County that will be on the ballot Tuesday.

Running for Congressional Representative from the 12th District is Danny O’Connor (D-OH) and Troy Balderson (R-OH). If that sounds familiar, it’s because those same two candidates ran for the same spot in the Special Election back in August.

Running for State Representative from the 97th District is Brian Hill (R-OH) and Kristine Geis (D-OH). Hill has been holding the position since 2011. This is Geis’ first time running for election.

Running for Muskingum County Commissioner is Jim Porter (R-OH) and John Bates (D-OH). Both of those names should be familiar to anyone in the county. Porter has been commissioner since 2010, and Bates was commissioner the four years prior to Porter’s election.

Beyond the people running for election are the levies on the ballot. Two levies are important to city and county residence. Zanesville City Schools are looking for a renewal of the five-year levy the district has had since 1989. Additionally, the school is asking for a $500,000 increase. Secondly, the Muskingum County Library System is also looking to renew its five-year levy and pass a small addition.
