West Muskingum falls, Rosecrans rolls in OHSAA sectionals

Two local boys soccer teams had very different fates in the opening round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association tournament.

West Muskingum met a tough Coshocton team, who handed the Tornadoes a 4-1 loss, backed by a trio of goals from Tanner Moats. The senior forward slotted his first goal of the night midway through the first half, before Andrew Neighbor followed up 11 minutes later to give the Redskins a 2-0 halftime lead.

Moats connected twice more, with the last one coming with 21 minutes left in regulation. Connor Tyo scored the Tornadoes’ lone goal with six minutes remaining, before Coshocton iced the game away.

Bishop Roscrans, meanwhile, breezed past an over matched Monroe Central team. When the dust settled, the Bishops made a statement with an 11-0 victory.

Kaid Brown and Weston Kern teamed up to knock through a pair of goals in a matter of moments just two minutes into the match before the Bishops knocked through a third goal in less than three minutes. By halftime, Rosecrans had already amassed a 7-0 lead.

The Bishops will now face Belmont Union Local on Wednesday. The location and time are to be determined.
