Weekend Planner Sept. 20 – 23

The weekends are beginning to get a little chillier. Fortunately, this weekend (Saturday at least) is clinging to some heat. Therefore, whether the pool or carving pumpkins are on the family calendar, this weekend has plenty of events to keep everybody busy. Have an event this weekend or during the coming weekends you would like to see in the planner? Thursday, Sept. 20:

  • Lock or Unlock Display– Works by members of the Art Loft from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the John McIntire Library. The works will be on display throughout the month of September in the Carnegie Wing Gallery on the second floor.
  • Toddler Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is aimed at 2 to 3.5-year-olds to enhance language skills through stories, songs and activities. For more information contact the Youth Services Desk at the library.
  • Preschool Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The program is aimed at 3.5-to 5-year-old children to enhance engagement through stories, songs and activities.
  • Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the John McIntire Public Library at 6 p.m. Students up to grade 5 are invited to bring their favorite stuffed pal and enjoy an hour-long story. After the stories, children can leave their stuffed animal to sleep at the library and can pick them up the following day after 3 p.m.
  • CommUNITY Read Book Discussion at the John McIntire Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The books up for discussion are The Daughters of Lancaster County Series written by Wanda Brunstetter.
  • Light the Night Walk at Ohio University Zanesville and Zane State College starting at 7:30 p.m. The campuses will be aglow for the annual Light the Night Walk in support of cancer research.

Friday, Sept. 21:

  • Lock or Unlock Display– Works by members of the Art Loft from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the John McIntire Library. The works will be on display throughout the month of September in the Carnegie Wing Gallery on the second floor.
  • The Wilds Sunset Safari Tour at 4:30 p.m. Guests enjoy a buffet-style dinner before boarding a safari vehicle to see the animals up close in their open-range habitats. The tour includes a behind-the-scenes viewing of the property. It’s $75 per person or $70 per person for members. Make your reservation here.
  • The Adventurous Palette at the Zanesville Museum of Art from 5 to 6 p.m. The event will wine and dine while showing participants an “artistic good time,” according to the description of the event.

Saturday, Sept. 22:

  • Parkinson’s Basic Training Seminar at Genesis Healthplex from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clinicians and an attorney are among the people presenting. The event offers education on sleep tips, palliative care and estate planning for Parkinson’s disease, according to the Facebook event. A light breakfast and lunch will be offered at the event.
  • 24 Annual Farm City Day at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be crafts and scavenger hunts throughout the day for children. The market opens at 9:30 a.m., story time starts at 10 a.m., the pedal pull at 10:30 a.m., VIP painting contest at 11:30 a.m. and finally the ice cream social at noon.
  • Zanesville Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Fairgrounds on Pershing Road.
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Corn Maze at McDonald’s Greenhouse kicked off off last week at 10 a.m. The maze is every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 29. Additional days will be added in October.
  • Familiar Comfort Gallery Hours from 1 to 5 p.m. at the PSZ Clay Center. The work is by Jenn Cole, a ceramic artist and curator from Lancaster, OH. Her work will be on display through the beginning of November.
  • Lorena Sternwheeler Public Rides from 2 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Zane’s Landing Park. Days to enjoy a ride on the sternwheeler are running out for this season. The sternwheeler travels up the Muskingum River Trail. No reservations are required but guests are asked to arrive 20 minutes before they plan to ride. Seniors ride for $7, Adults ride for $8 and children ride for $4.
