PetValu put the ‘fun’ in funds during Saturday’s adoption event with the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center.

The local PetValu branch chose the dog warden as the recipient of its calendar sales fundraising donations. A check totaling $9,221 was presented to wardens for the adoption center. An additional $555.26 was added onto that donation from the donation acquired during PetValu’s appreciation month throughout April.

Unfortunately, no dogs were adopted during the event, but that did not take away from all the excitement.

“You could tell they were happy to be out and about instead of being cooped up in a pin,” Shane Cooper, PetValu Store Manager, said.

One owner that adopted a dog from the adoption center during the Clear the Shelter event a couple weeks ago brought her furry friend in for a bath and to mingle with the other dogs, Cooper said.

The dog wardens and volunteers that were present at the event were grateful for the check presented by PetValu and were able to tell customers about the building plans for the new facility.

While the funds were presented by PetValu, Cooper said it’s not the store that provides the money, it’s the customers that love their community.

“If it wasn’t for our customers and the generous people of the community, none of this money would be able to be given,” Cooper said.

Each PetValu participates in two national campaigns each year. Other than those two campaigns, Cooper said it’s up to each PetValu store to fundraise throughout the year and donate money to animal-centered organizations in the community.

This donation was one of many that the Zanesville PatValu does each year.

Commissioner Mollie Crooks made an appearance at the adoption event to mingle with the wardens and volunteers and to pet a few furry friends.

The Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center volunteers and wardens have been working with the Muskingum County Commissioners through the process of acquiring and working to renovate their new building.

Renovations on the new facility have not yet begun, but Deputy Dog Warden Brittany Calihan said wardens met with the architect about two weeks ago.
