A Zanesville High School graduate is the 2018 recipient of the Fred F. and Herman M. Dreier Scholarship.

On Tuesday, the organization awarded Logan Miller with a $40,000 scholarship. The award will help fund Miller’s education at Ohio State University as a pre-med student.

Logan Miller is the 2018 Dreier Foundation Scholarship recipient

The Fred F. and Herman M. Dreier Foundation annually chooses one Muskingum County student pursuing a degree in Engineering, Medical or Veterinary Science or Agriculture.

According to the foundation, those disciplines were important to the brothers after which the Dreier Scholarship is named.

The brothers, Fred and Herman, grew up during the Great Depression and worked as sheet metal craftsmen for the George P. Frueh Company.

Though they never had a formal education, they appreciated its value.

Before Fred Dreier died, he established the scholarship foundation in his brother Herman’s memory in 2005.

Scholarship recipients must display academic potential, high moral character and financial need.
