A semi-truck delivering parts to Zanesville’s maintenance departments earlier Tuesday afternoon struck a utility line, causing a power outage in the area.

Craig Prouty, Vehicle Mechanic Supervisor for the City of Zanesville, said the truck caught the main telecommunication cable that feeds into the city garage, breaking a pole and its attached cables.

According to AEP, about 80 customers in the area of Central Avenue have been without power since just before 1 p.m.

“We have a couple guys here from traffic signal that have generators running at each one of the intersections to keep the lights on for those,” said Prouty.

Another city employee, Chad Fracker of the street division, said the truck was from the delivery company known as Estes.

According to AEP, crews were on scene and predicted power would be restored by 6:30 p.m.

Update: Power has been restored to the area according to AEP’s outage map.
