The City of Zanesville along with the Zanesville-Muskingum County Convention and Visitors Bureau launched an app to help visitors travel around Zanesville.

As of three weeks ago, the app had over 750 downloads, Vice President of Zanesville-Muskingum Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau Kelly Ashby, said.

The app is designed to allow those looking for places to stay, eat, find entertainment, shop and much more, navigate their time in Zanesville. It offers a navigation homepage with eight options that will lead you to listings for campgrounds, hotels and other adventurous places to stay under the “Where To Stay;” sites to see and popular attractions in “What To Do;” hometown favorites, restaurants and coffee shops under “Where To Eat;” even available parking areas in downtown Zanesville under the “More …” tab.

Each site listing in the app provides the name of the location, address, contact information for the facility, a description of what the destination has to offer, a link to each place’s website and directions from the user’s location.

There is also an events section that is updated in accordance with the Zanesville-Muskingum County visitor’s website. The app is linked to the website, so when the website is updated with an event the app is as well, Ashby said. Updates can be made multiple times a day depending on when staff members at the visitor’s bureau are informed of upcoming events.

The app was released with a “soft launch” in January to test out the processes during the winter months, Ashby said. The “heavy” launch of the app came at the beginning on May in accordance with National Tourism Week.

The travel app does ask downloaders to allow access to their location while in the app in order to list the destination’s distance from user’s current locations.

Funding for the app was received after the City of Zanesville partnered with the convention and visitor bureau applied for a federal Cool and Connected Implementation Grant through the Appalachian Regional Commission, Ashby said.

There’s something for everyone in the app as it offers destinations to best experience nightlife out on the town with friends, museums and historical sites the whole family can enjoy, laid-back getaways and plenty of destinations geared toward the more adventurous souls.

The Zanesville travel app can be downloaded from visitzanesville.com/download-our-app, the Apple App Store for iPhones and Google Play for androids.
