Wesley Frank, an 18-year-old Muskingum County resident who was eyeing to become county commissioner announced early Thursday afternoon he was withdrawing from the race.

Having just received his Maysville High School diploma earlier this week and with two years of college already under his belt, Frank had said he was excited to be the youngest candidate ever to run for the position in the history of the county.

Frank had previously filed to challenge Commissioner Cindy Cameron in the Republican primary last December before withdrawing his petition and then refiling as an independent again against Cameron for the general election.

According to a Facebook post from Frank, he had mistakenly filed against Cameron back in December, when he had intended to file against Commissioner Mollie Crooks. He then repeated the same mistake when filing his petition as an independent earlier this year.

“I mistakenly filed for a second time against Commissioner Cindy Cameron. This was not my intention, as I intended to file against Mollie Crooks,” the post read in part.

“I feel that it is God’s desire that I withdraw from the election and continue to dedicate myself to my home Muskingum County,” said Frank. “I do not regret anything, but the error I made. I believe this county needs a change and I will one day be back again for that change.”

With Frank withdrawing from the race for Muskingum County Commissioner, both Mollie Crooks and Cindy Cameron will run unopposed this November for four-year terms beginning in 2021.
