Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is ordering that 128 voting locations throughout the State of Ohio be relocated following concerns of the Coronavirus.

On Monday LaRose said he was sending a directive to all 88 county board of elections in Ohio to establish alternate locations for voting. Currently, the 128 sites are limited to places such as senior citizen living and nursing facilities.

According to Muskingum County Board of Elections Director Tim Thompson, Muskingum County currently does not utilize any such facility for the election process.

In an article by The Columbus Dispatch, Governor DeWine was reported saying that the state needs to address whether schools that are used as voting locations on Election Day also need to be alternated.

According to Thompson there are seven schools used by the county board of elections as voting sites, but his office has not received any directive from the Secretary of State’s Office regarding finding or establishing alternative voting locations.

“The board would have to discuss what we’ll do if that ever happens,” said Thompson.

LaRose ended by saying that Ohioans still have the ability to vote early by absentee ballot or in person. Those wishing to vote in person can do so at the county board of elections headquarters located at 627 Market St. in Zanesville.

Those completing absentee ballots must have theirs postmarked by Monday, March 16 or dropped off by 7:30 p.m. at the county board of elections on election night.
