A cat and dog were revived by rescuers Monday morning after a fire began at a Zanesville home.

According to Zanesville Fire Chief Jeff Bell, firefighters were called to 1105 Greenwood Ave. around 8:30 a.m. and arrived to find flames coming out of the front of the house.

After quickly knocking the fire, firefighters were able to search the home and recover two dogs and a cat.

Bell said personnel from Genesis Community Ambulance and the fire department revived two of the animals that sustained smoke inhalation during the fire.

“All three animals are in good health, so that’s a positive out of it,” said Bell.

No one else was home at the time.

“There was a family that was actually moving out today,” said Bell. “The gentleman was going to U-Haul to pick up a truck, so they had all of their belongings in the front room and that’s where the fire started.”

Two children, ages 6 and 16, were at school during the fire and another adult was also away from the house.

According to Bell, the house was condemned and the family was in the process of moving into another home.

The Red Cross has been asked to assist them during their time of need.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson, gas had been shut off to the house prior to the fire, but there was still electricity.
