A Zanesville woman was rescued from her home on Fairway Lane Tuesday morning after it filled with smoke due to a fire.
According to Chief Jeff Bell of the Zanesville Fire Department, the woman was smoking a cigarette while using an oxygen tank, causing a small fire inside the apartment around 9:30 a.m.
Due to heavy smoke, the woman could not exit the residence until the first engine arrived on scene and firefighters could walk her outside.
Bell said the woman was taken to Genesis Hospital for evaluation by Community Ambulance.
Also on scene to assist was the Falls Township Fire Department.
The American Red Cross has been asked to help the woman upon her release from the hospital.
