After being indicted on one second-degree felony count of felonious assault in the stabbing of a Chandlersville man, Amanda Umbleby pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in common pleas court Monday morning.

According to Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz, deputies and medical responders were called to 6195 Chandlersville Rd. around 11:40 a.m. on Oct. 14 in response to a domestic dispute in which a man had been stabbed in the neck.

They arrived to find 40 year-old John Kuhn bleeding profusely from the neck at his Chandlersville home.

His girlfriend, 36 year-old Umbleby, was arrested on the scene in connection with the stabbing.

In court, Assistant Prosecutor Gerald Anderson explained that Kuhn was very upset about the condition of the home the couple shared and threatened to beat Umbleby and hold her hostage.

Umbleby, a victim of past domestic violence, told investigators she feared for her safety, so she picked up a knife and swung it without striking Kuhn.

Anderson said Kuhn provoked her to actually stab him, so she did.

When police arrived at their house, Umbleby was standing in the driveway holding a child and Kuhn was locked inside a car.

Umbleby was taken into custody and charged in the incident.

On Monday, she pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony.

Umbleby remains in the Muskingum County Jail on $100,000 while she awaits sentencing.
