A Friday morning laundry cycle ended with a call to the fire department as clothes caught fire inside a dryer at a local laundromat.

The Zanesville Fire Department received a call just after 11 a.m. for a dryer fire at Laundra-Tan located at 1047 Linden Ave.

When firefighters arrived, the scorched clothes were already outside and someone used a fire extinguisher to eliminate the fire, Assistant Fire Chief John Rodman said.

Rodman added that it appears the dryer did not sustain any damage.

Approximately six people were inside the laundromat at the time the clothes caught fire, but no one was injured.

Firefighters remained on scene and set up a fan to air out the building.

According to a Laundra-Tan employee, the laundromat is currently still open and serving customers.
