Habitat for Humanity Southeast Ohio recently exceeded its fundraising goal during the third annual Taste of Muskingum County cooking competition.

The non-profit organization aimed at providing affordable housing for those needing assistance raised $28,000 during the event — $8,000 more than the goal.

“The proceeds will stay here in Muskingum County to support programs and help us build more homes,” said Melissa Best, Director of Community Engagement for Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio.

During the competition on Nov. 7 at Weatherington Woods, the sold out crowd in attendance tasted dishes prepared by local chefs representing various restaurants and businesses.

Participating were Chef Bill Bird, The Barn, Brookdale Senior Living, The Clover Key in Nashport, Terra Cotta Vineyards in New Concord, Urban Comforts and The Warehouse in Dresden.

“It was a tough competition because all of the chefs prepared a fabulous dish,” said Best.

Coming out on top was The Clover Key, which took home Top Chef honors. In second place was The Warehouse, and Urban Comforts took third.
