Just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday, fire departments were called to Avondale Youth Center on Roseville Road in response to a carbon monoxide leak.

According to the Newton Township Fire Department, the leak was minor but resulted in 11 people being taken to the hospital.

Ten children and one adult were released the same evening, said Kevin Wintermute, a childcare worker at Avondale.

Those kids are now back in school Monday.

“Everybody’s back, and everybody went to school today,” said Wintermute. “Everything’s back to normal.”
