The soon-to-be vacant space located on Zane Street where a portion of the Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be relocating from could go up for lease.

Thursday morning, the Muskingum County Commissioners were scheduled to open the bids for the property, located at 655 Zane St., but there were no bids submitted.

Due to the lack of interest in the purchase of the building, it was proposed that the county could attempt to lease the space rather than sell it in its entirety.

Kellie Brown, the Superintendent for the Muskingum County Board of DD who also oversees Guernsey County, said she had a positive experience leasing property in her Guernsey County supervision.

While Brown said it was “unfortunate” that the property did not sell, she said the delay will give her staff more time to make a smooth transition from the current building to the Newark Road location.

In the original bid contract, Brown said it stated that the MCBDD would be out of the building by Oct. 1. Now, the organization can push that date back about a month.

The purpose of the MCBDD Administration Community Support building moving out to the Newark Road location is to have the entire MCBDD organization on one campus.

Brown said there currently are not any prospects to lease the space, but due to the property not selling, the county thinks leasing is a viable option.

Moving forward, the MCBDD will work with the Muskingum County Commissioners, as well as the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office to create a contract for leasing.

Anyone interested in leasing the property, which offers about 45 parking spaces in addition to the building, can contact Brown at 740.453.4829.
