The Zanesville Fire Department was hard for motorists to miss on Maple Avenue Friday.

If the fire trucks lining the parking lot of Huntington Bank or the firefighters holding boots out to passersby in the area weren’t enough to garner attention, the dancing fire chief certainly was.

Chief Jeff Bell entertained traffic dressed as a dalmation while dancing, waving and blowing kisses to all who drove past his firefighters early Friday afternoon.

The money collected during the fill the boot campaign will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the charity of choice for firefighter unions across the country since 1954.

Zanesville’s IAFF Local 88 president, Thad Krause, said the goal is to match what was raised last year — $10,000.

The department will be collecting donations again next Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Zane and Underwood Streets.
