A partnership between the Muskingum County Court and the Zanesville Municipal Court resulted in helping 77 local people during the county’s first BMV Clinic.

On July 17, the two courts hosted the BMV Clinic at the Muskingum County Court. Seven attorneys, both local and from surrounding counties, volunteered their time during the clinic to help individuals legally navigate through their license reinstatement process, as well as provide legal advice, according to a media release from the Muskingum County Court.

Volunteers from Southeast Ohio Legal Services also assisted with the event to pair attorneys with individuals seeking guidance.

At the end of the one-day-long event, 21 people left with a valid drivers license, were valid to retest or reinstate or received limited driving privileges.

With the stipulation that payment plans remain constant, 65 warrant blocks or license forfeitures were lifted. Four people also received referrals for a legal aid bankruptcy attorney or pro bono bankruptcy attorney.

The Ohio BMV also waived a total of $39,099.50 in reinstatement fees.

Muskingum County Court Judge Jay F. Vinsel and Zanesville Municipal Court Judge William Joseph were pleased with the results of the event, according to the release.

Due to the level of positive results from the first clinic, the courts are planning to host a second BMV Clinic in October. The clinic will be hosted on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

More information about the upcoming event will be released at a later date.
